Maseno University together with other 15 global partners are implementing an agroecology project titled ‘Potentials of Agro-ecological practices in East Africa with a focus on Circular Water-energy-nutrient Systems (PrAEctiCe). PrAEctiCe will provide a novel Agro-Ecology indicator set for East Africa, aimed at helping smallholder farmers in their agro-ecological transition. The project goes beyond the existing indicator frameworks by putting the “concept into action” with a decision support tool for Agro-Ecology advisors supporting the selection of the best suited combination of agro-ecological farming practices in a local context, and puts a focus on circular water-energy-nutrient systems of integrated aqua-agriculture, an agro-ecological practice with high potential for efficient farming with minimal climate impacts, which has not been sufficiently explored in previous indicator works.
The objective of the workshop will be to validate and get feedback from the stakeholders on the various indicators of agroecology, including IAA and other agroecological practices based on the mapping and reviews conducted over the last 12 months. The forum will also be used to get feedback on the applicability, practicality and economic viability of selected indicators and indicator frameworks in Kenya.
