Following an event that took place in Kisumu hotel between 11th and 14th of June 2024, Maseno university in collaboration with the university of Nairobi, Kibabi university and Dedan kimathy university of technology will be joining hands in support of collaborative online international learning (COIL) and virtual exchanges at home in higher academic education institutions in Kenya.
The meeting of an event was opened by professor Joseph S Chacha, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Partnership, Research and Innovation, Maseno university. It was therefore chaired by professor Florence Indede, an associate professor of Kiswahili at Maseno university. The event was attended by researchers from different university institutions across the nation.
The discussion of an event aimed at various objectives including ; to integrate Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) in the modeling of infectious diseases, to support international healthcare students to obtain competencies of interprofessional collaborators in healthcare from global perspective, to facilitate cross-border collaborative online international learning aimed at acquisition of global intercultural skills and competencies needed in tackling global challenges, to integrate the international dimension in teaching and learning in DeKUT IToHM programs through COIL, to enhance nursing students’ ethical decision making through COIL , to incorporate collaborative online international learning in social work training, establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for international visiting scholars(IVS) at KIBU, contribute towards COIL through intercultural communication and effective use of IT tools in learning, to pilot the EMPOWER –STEM COIL course to train STEM teachers across Africa with the requisite knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies necessary to improve the teaching and learning of STEM in high schools, To incorporate COIL in teaching the teacher how to develop cultural competence as a health professions educator (HPE),to integrate COIL in the community service- learning course, to enhance COIL through teaching translation courses among under graduate students and to organize a COIL program on upholding academic integrity in the error of artificial intelligence (AI).
