A collaborative effort between Maseno University, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and FOCUS brought together local farmers and agricultural experts for a training workshop on cassava and maize disease management.

The workshop aimed to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage these prevalent crop threats. The workshop boasted an esteemed panel of experts, including Prof. Mathews Dida from the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Dr. Fredrick Aila, and Dr. Owen McOnyango.

Their combined expertise provided farmers with valuable insights into the identification, prevention, and control of common cassava and maize diseases. Beyond theoretical knowledge, the workshop offered practical learning opportunities. Following insightful presentations and discussions , participants embarked on a visit to the university's school farm. This practical session provided an invaluable platform for farmers to observe best practices in planting and firsthand identify the various diseases affecting their crops. This collaborative initiative empowers local farmers with the necessary tools and knowledge to combat cassava and maize diseases, ultimately contributing to increased agricultural productivity and food security within the region.
