Community Health Nursing is a specialty within nursing that focuses on improving population health not only by emphasizing prevention but also attending to multiple determinants of health. It acknowledges the complexity of community health problems and the contextual nature of health -- including cultural, environmental, historical, physical, and social factors.

In line with the mission of School of Nursing, the Department of Community Health aims to train competent graduates responsive to local, national, and global community health needs. As we envision to be a center of excellence for training of skilled and competent nursing professionals, we impart knowledge and skills to enable students mobilize and empower the community take charge of their own health, as well as effectively use their resources to achieve the best possible level of wellness.

 In addition to teaching community health units in the School of Nursing, the department coordinates community health attachment activities for its students in partnership with health agencies and communities within Maseno environs.
